Nutrition Coaching: Eat Better, Train Better

If you have been searching for nutrition coaching, you are probably tired of guessing. Maybe you train hard and still feel stuck. Maybe you have tried three diets and quit all three. I get it. I have been there, and I have coached a lot of athletes through the same wall.
I'm Coach Terry. I served in the Navy as a rescue swimmer, and I have run Erie Shore Athletics since 2020. Nutrition coaching is one of the services we offer, and I want to explain what good coaching looks like so you know what to look for, wherever you go.
What nutrition coaching actually is
Coaching is a person helping you build eating habits you can keep. That is the whole job. It is not a meal plan taped to your fridge. It is not a list of foods you are banned from.
A good coach listens first. What does your week look like? Do you work early shifts? Do you have kids to feed? Do you eat out on Fridays? The plan has to fit the life you already have, or it falls apart by week three.
Then the coach picks one or two small changes and checks in on them. That is how habits stick.
Who it helps
You do not need to be an elite athlete. Nutrition coaching can make sense if:
- You train but your food is all over the place.
- You skip meals and then overeat at night.
- You want to understand protein, carbs and fats without a science degree.
- You have a goal, like more energy or getting stronger, and you are not sure how food fits in.
If you are new to all this, start with our free Beginner Fuel Guide. It covers the basics in plain words and costs nothing.
Start small, and start with protein
Most people try to change everything on Monday. By Thursday they are done. I would rather you change one thing and own it.
For a lot of athletes, the best first step is a real protein source at each meal. Eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, beans, lean beef. Pick what you like and can afford. Protein helps you feel full and supports the muscle you are working to build in the gym.
After protein is steady, add color. Put a vegetable or a piece of fruit on the plate. Then look at your water. Small steps stack up.
Food and training work together
Winter on Lake Erie makes everything harder. The wind comes off the lake, it gets dark early, and the couch looks great. Food is part of what keeps you moving through those months. When you eat enough of the right things, training feels better. When you under-eat, workouts feel like a grind.
That is why we like to connect the two. Our coached group training, semi-private training and personal training sessions give you a place to work hard. Nutrition coaching gives you the fuel plan behind it. You can see how our sessions run on the programs page and check the schedule for what is open.
What to expect from us
I will not promise you a number on the scale. Nobody honest can. I will not tell you to cut out whole food groups or live on celery. What I can promise is that you will talk with a real coach who wants you to succeed and who will explain things clearly.
Everything works better when you are consistent, so we aim for habits you can repeat on a busy Tuesday, not just on a perfect Sunday.
A quick note: this post is general information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, take medication, are pregnant, or have a history of trouble with food, check with your doctor or a registered dietitian before you change how you eat.
Take the first step
You do not have to figure this out alone. Come in, meet the coaches, see the gym, and tell us what you are trying to do. We will talk through it together and see what makes sense for you. No pressure, no hype.
Coach Terry
